State of the Diocese Address, June 14, 2003

|
"...Finally, I believe that our compassion as a Diocese should not be limited to the four counties of the
Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren. Our Lord, whose compassion knew no national or ethnic
boundaries, cautioned against a parochial vision of charity: "If you love only those who love you,
what reward can you expect? Even tax collectors do as much" (Mt 5:46). I am pleased to announce
|
| today the participation of the Diocese in a program sponsored by the Catholic Relief Services and
called the "Global Solidarity Partnership." Through this program the Diocese of Metuchen will be
establishing a formal partnership with the Diocese of Sta. Rosa in Guatemala. The partnership will
include mainly enriching opportunities for education and faith-sharing, as well as provide our
Diocese with the opportunity of alleviating some of the suffering of our brothers and sisters in
that impoverished part of the world."
